Updates – I Suck

by Haggan on Dec.24, 2009, under Console Gaming, Life, PC Gaming, Video Gaming

I suck at updates this blog. I really do. Between playing stuff like Forza 3, Torchlight, and back to playing World of Warcraft (the new LFG tool is awesome!), and not to mention finding time to work, I just haven’t been updating.

But I am now Cisco Certified! Well, my CCENT anyways. Still studying for my CCNA.

Trying different things with the site too, just to fiddle around with it. Not that anyone besides me ever comes here anyways, which is fine with me.

New Games

by Haggan on Oct.11, 2009, under Console Gaming, Video Gaming

OK, so apparently Toys R Us is having this buy 2 get 1 free deal on all their games. Well, I went in today and picked up NHL 10, Wet, and Resident Evil 5 (PS3). Going to return Wet and RE5 on Tuesday and going to pick up Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2.

A few things

by Haggan on Sep.30, 2009, under Console Gaming, Video Gaming

If anyone is reading this, you may have noticed that I am usually behind on my game playing, that’s because I have a job and bills to pay and don’t always have the cash flow to pay for games when they come out. So I get them when I can, and when inspiration strikes me.

But here is the latest crop of games i’ve gotten:

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Halo: ODST
Batman :Arkham Asylum
Resident Evil 5

I’ve already finished Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and Halo: ODST, and both were fine games, going back through them now to get some more achievement points. Haven’t even started Resident Evil 5, but since I loved the previous games, I am sure I will like this one also.

The one i’m currently playing is Batman :Arkham Asylum, and so far, it’s a damn fine game. The combo system take a bit of getting used to, but it’s growing on me. I also like how the mainstay villains all have something to add to the storyline, which is nice. I’m not too far into the game yet, just entering the hospital area where you have to rescue Commissioner Gordon, but the game is full of secret stuff like Riddler‘s.. umm.. riddles, the little chomping teeth that skitter around, etc. And Harley Quinn looks hot.

As for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, here is my take on: it’s a good game, but so far doesn’t hold as much replay value as the first one. The story is awesome, I loved the Civil War comics, and the game adaptation is just freaking awesome. The challenges definitely live up to their namesake, they challenge, and that is good. It’s good seeing the developer catch the spirit of the comics instead of making up their own storyline. Now if there was something like a Secret Invasion DLC, it would be even more awesome.

Halo: ODST – It was a good mystery story. I haven’t tried Firefight mode, which I am told is where the game will shine for me, but the inclusion of the Halo 3 multiplayer stuff is nice and brings me back to two years ago when I actually didn’t mind listening to whiny people on Live.

FIFA Soccer 09

FIFA Soccer 09

FIFA Soccer 09

I have a confession. I am a closet soccer (or football to anyone outside America) fan. I watch every game I can without subscribing to the soccer channel my cable network offers. When the U.S.A. beat Spain the Confederates Cup semi’s, I was jumping for joy through out the entire game. When the U.S. team was playing Brazil in the final, I was almost hyperventilating at half-time when they were up by 2, and a little part of me died when the ended up losing the game.

And I enjoy soccer video game. I especially like this one because it includes the MLS league to play with. Going with DC United as my favorite team (interestingly I do cheer for DC United), I went into the Be A Pro mode to see if I could make it to my beloved U.S. Soccer Team.

So far, with 25 games into the season, i’ve made the national reserves and i’m team captain of DC United.

I’m liking this game. The part of this game I don’t understand is the card game. Why is there a card game in here? Is this another way for EA to make money on micro-transactions? And the updates to the rosters, etc… why do you get one for free and have to pay for the rest? I don’t understand the need to get more money out of people after they plop down the money for your game in the first place.

Fight Night Round 4

by Haggan on Jul.02, 2009, under Console Gaming, Video Gaming

Fight Night Round 4

Fight Night Round 4

Let me go on record first and say that i’m not a big fighting games person. I like Street Fighter, but i’m not very good. I like Marvel vs Capcom 2, but, again, i’m not very good.

Which brings us to Fight Night Round 4, another fighting game. Visually this game is extremely impressive, you can see the sweat flying off when you land a punch, which brings me to my problem. I suck at this game.

When you start a new career, you compete in this amateur tournament wearing the headgear and everything. I lost in the first round. Instead of my guy giving up his boxing career and going to work at a factory, he decided to go pro anyways and promptly loses his first two fights. I win the third one, and the fourth one, but lost again to the same guy in the next two fights.

So yes, i’m assuming this game has everything needed for a realistic boxing experience, and i’m sure some people appreciate that, unfortunately, I don’t think I am one of them.

My biggest complaint against this game is min-games as training exercises. Is it just me, or if you are not perfect on your controls, you really cannot do the training exercises? I tried to to do the heavy bag hoping for some more punch strength and ended up getting zeroes in everything. I just do the auto train now because it seems that my controlling the game isn’t enough to get anything done in the game, which is probably another reason I suck.

inFamous

I recently picked up this title by Sucker Punch for the PS3, basing my choice of this or Prototype on reviews and such i’ve found on the interwebs. I am glad I picked this title up, it is fun. And I don’t mean fun in the “oh my, jolly good show” type of fun.. I mean shocking enemies with lightning, kicking the crap out enemies and getting news powers and using them to shock and amaze the public.

The only problem I have with the game is a minor one, but it’s pretty important.. doing the “collect em all” misson of the dead drops, you have to press the L3 button down, which shows you the electricity near you as well as a small grey indicator of where the closest dead drop is. While this is appreciative, the grey color of the indicator blends a little to closely into the interface for my liking.

Other than that minor gripe, I find the controls smooth and fluid, executing combos with different powers seamlessly is awesome and graphically spectacular.
